Our Programs

1. Clinical service provision:
In some locations, and only where appropriate, Bridge to Health will send a team of qualified volunteers to work under the guidance of the local Head of Programs. Known as "Community Out-reaches", these programs are determined based on a comprehensive needs assessment and include both a healthcare services and educational component. The ratio of foreign vs local volunteers is generally 1-5 and are integrated with longer-term interventions focused on improving the healthcare system as a whole. Bridge to Health is currently active in Uganda and Kenya and is exploring new sites with partners in Rwanda and Mali.

Importantly, Bridge to Health is committed to transparency and the highest ethical standards. Our 2025 out-reach will be attended by an independent researcher looking to gather qualitative data on the experience of our patients and the communities within which we work.

Bridge to Health is one of the most reputable and long-standing non-profits working closely with local healthcare providers to provide access to care for tens of thousands of patients yearly and enhance their services.

We do this through our three-pilar approach:

2. Education and Capacity Building
Bridge to Health is committed to sustainable healthcare and we believe the best way to do this is by enhancing clinical capacity locally.

Our education program consists of various components:

i) On-site clinical training with qualified professionals. During each out-reach, we will host up to 30 local student volunteers who work alongside our qualified professionals over two-week periods, seeing tens of thousands of patients.

"It was an unforgettable experience being able to work with the doctors here on-site. I learnt more than I ever did in class. It changed the way I see medicine"
- John, a student volunteer in Uganda.

ii) The Bridge to Health Education Fund

Launched during the global pandemic of 2020 as a way to continue our support and commitment to the region, Bridge to Health fundraises and supports several students to pursue their medical or dental education. We are currently supporting 3x students, all previous Bridge to Health volunteers, in both Uganda and Kenya.

2. Clinical research
As awardees of two prestigious Grand Challenges Canada grants (supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Government of Canada), Bridge to Health is committed to advancing clinical knowledge and innovation.

Through an MoU with the Lancet Countdown on Health and Climate Change, Bridge to Health is currently researching health vulnerabilities in Amazonian Peru associated with climate change.

Linking to this work and informed by data related to rising cases of dengue across Latin America due to extreme weather events, Bridge to Health has launched a new program to explore the use of Point-of-Care Ultrasound as a tool for screening severe dengue.
